I think its a temp switch, maybe the one that opens the thermostat, at given temp. I know it a temp switch, but not sure what for. Id say that if you cant fill the coolant to near the specified capacity, even after you get the air out, then this switch opens the stat.

The thermostat housing has two places that sensors plug into, one on the front that goes to the auxillary fan but what does the one on the back side go to? Whatever it is, mine is totally missing? Any help appreciated...
