My evo III cat looks just like the pic at the bottom of this thread. It's a different style cat than stock, has slightly larger tubes where it connects to header, but same size at rear muffler....built well...got a good price at $1250....My car passed emission with a ZERO reading in parts per million! good power, sound....I've also had an ansa catless and got sick of the sound.
I hear alot of talk about replacing a stock cat with an aftermarket resonator such a the Supersprint or Ansa ones. My question is- is there an advantage to going with these over whatever BMW used on the non-cat. M3s? Has anyone purchased a factory resonator lately - price? weight? If any of us here in the U.S. ordered one we'd have to have it shipped from Germany probably, but it might be worth the trouble? BTW, I know that the stock cat. has a small "resonator" towards the rear of the section that is basically a small muffler (before the muffler). Are all resonators just straight perforated pipes surrounded by insulation, a "quieter straight pipe"? Thanks for all comments...
