Those engines are blowing up because of lean conditions. Remember that they now make all engines with catalytic converters. One world, one model.

BMW placed the converters pretty high up in the lower headers. It seem that it brings too much restriction. Not enough gas out, not enough fuel in. Which is why theay are exploding. They are still looking for solutions...
