I called Bav Auto (800.535.2002) and told them I was planning on doing the front tie-rods on my car, but wanted to get an idea of how entailed the job was and asked if they could send me a schematic of the job. They faxed me a one page overview of how it all fit together in 10 min.

On the e30 M3, it appears that the tie rods connect to the steering rack under the rubber boots. Seems like all i need to do is pull back the boots and put a wrench on it and unscrew the rods from the rack. But first undue the outer ball joint! Looks like a straighforward job.

Good Luck,

Mark M
