Thank you! I could not see how a rear strut brace could do anything. It will hold the towers in place but they don't actually take any load except for up and down. No side loading like the MacPhersons up front. I've seen some smart people say they were the key, but I don't see it! Opinions possibly confirmed?
If you haven't butchered the rear trunk wall, you won't gain any benefit. The bar isn't designed to reinforce anything, just made to make money for the tuners. If you want something that helps, you'll have to weld in a triangulated brace that runs beteen the two towers and down to the spring perches. This is a PITA if you haven't cut the back wall out. If your wall is intact, DON'T CUT IT OUT! It actually does add a lot of rigidity to the rear. I did it on a friend's M3 years ago, and it handled like crap in the autocross a few days later. We welded in a brace from tower to tower and wheel well to wheel well and down to the spring perches. This regained the lost structural integrity.
