I am now in the process of drying out the carpet in the rear passenger wheel wells. I did notice that the matting under the rear seating area was damp. Upon closer inspection I noticed some rust color water stains around two screw holes located in the rear seat back area (see pic one). These screw holes were covered up by black screw plugs. What are these screw holes for? Where do they lead? Why are they rusting (can water be seeping from underneath and into these screw holes? I have used some SEM rust stopper and have also applied a thick layer of paint to the area. I was also thinking of using some silicone to seal up the holes when I put back the screw plugs.

As I was going through the trunk to ensure it was dry. I noticed a gap in the carpet around the passenger tail light and battery box area (see pic 2). Are these gaps normal, or has the body shop put in the wrong carpets?

Thanks again for all your help.

Pete

Pete,
I think those 2 holes you are refering to
Are for seat belt mounting for other version
of the E-30 body style. as far as the carpet
on the Trunk I look at my car it looks like the carpet should go all the way up and captured
under the plastic trim. so most likely
the body shop did a short cut on you again by puttting the wrong parts.
