in english it translates to lamp check controller , it it what turns the LED's in the check panel (up by rear view mirror ) on when you have a lamp out somewhere in the car , this is the component that does the electrical test to check and see if bulbs are ok.
It is the "Lampenkontrollgerät." That's what it says on it. I did not see a normal PN on it but there was a BMW roundel emblem on it and it had the number 1 375 909 on it. It also had 01022 printed in green on the back of it.
babelfish.altavista.com says there is no translation for it but if I split it up like this: "lampen kontrll gerät", it translates as, "for lamps control turns out." Whatever it means, exactly, it is for the rear lamps.
Like I said before, those black and white connectors plug into it.
The factory amp is the much larger box with one square black connector to it.
HTH,
Jon
I GUESS THAT MAKES SINCE! I LOOKED IN MY CAR AND DID NOT SEE ANY SIGN OF A BOX LIKE THAT! SO MAYBE HIS "BLACK BOX" WAS RELOCATED BY PO? OR IS IT MINE THAT IS RELOCATED? HUMM. WELL MY CHECK LIGHTS WORK FINE SO I WILL NOT WORRY ABOUT IT!!
