17x8.5 Schnitzer Type III Wheels (archive)

Has anyone installed (or tried to install) 17x8.5 Schnitzer Type III Wheels on an E30 M3? The narrowest width they come in is 8.5". The folks at TireRack, who have a good reputation, say they don't fit (too wide). Anyone have experience otherwise?
