Get spacers to bring the wheels to a 29mm offset or so and it should work

I know of someone who put 17x7.5ET42 E36 M3 forged wheels on his car w/out spacers. The inward measurement from the hub for those wheels was 137.25, whereas 17x8.5ET29s would be 136.95 so inner clearance should be fine.

I have 17x8ET23 wheels on my car and they stick out 78.6mm from the hub. 17x8.5ET29s would stick out 78.95mm. That's pretty close and I don't believe the extra .45mm will make a difference.

This just means that the wheels will clear. Still, if you run tires that are too wide or too tall, you might get into trouble. I have 225/40-17s on mine. I'm not sure what the 17x7.5ET42 guy had on his. So, you might want to try it but be extra careful.

Good luck,
Jon

Has anyone installed (or tried to install) 17x8.5 Schnitzer Type III Wheels on an E30 M3? The narrowest width they come in is 8.5". The folks at TireRack, who have a good reputation, say they don't fit (too wide). Anyone have experience otherwise?

Thanks
