wheel width/offset question (archive)

I'm looking at putting M5 'throwing star' rims on my stock '88 M3. The front rims are 17 X 8 et20 (I know that those will fit); the rears are 17 X 9 et22. My question is, will the rear ones fit; and what size tire should I go with?
