Since I'm dealing with family, I want him to get fair value if he sells to me. On the other hand I don't want to get ripped off. Kelley's and N.A.D.A. set retail at 10 to 12 thousand. Sounds great. But I keep searching the internet for postings and see guys asking 15, 17, 20 thousand for similar cars, similarly equipped....
True low mileage cars are what it's all about in this game. I wouldn't think twice about paying $15k for a 55xxx mile car. Actually, I've offered up to $17.5k on two different low mileage cars (in the last year) and been *outbid* each time.
$12k is for a car just like the one I finally ended up with (i.e., that's what I ended up spending): a good running, non-abused example with 90xxx+ miles, but which will require a few bits here and there to bring it up to 'pristine' condition.
