First, scroll down to Jorge's question about e30 vs e36. If you want a car that is just like thousands of other people have, go for the e36. If you want a car that hardly anyone has, go for the e30 M3. I drive my 88 m3 every day, which is alright as long as you get it checked out every once in a while. Basically, if you want straight out smooth acceleration go for the 325; if you want a cat that is great around curves and back roads go for the m3.

The m3 will be more of a commitment as far as maintenance goes, but it is worth it in my opinion. I also have a 94 318is which I keep as my supposed daily driver, but I end up driving the e30 m3 almost all the time because of the sound, look, and enjoyment of it. If you have the extra time and money (and you can do some of your own repair work) go for the m3.
