Anyone who's had an E30 M3 will tell you that it's a joy to drive and all that fun stuff. They will also tell you about the maintenance they require. There are pros and cons to owning one of these machines, but it's up to you to decide. If I were in your shoes I'd do the following:
Buy a cheap (but well maintained) 325e for everyday driving and work. The "eta's" are a wonderful everyday driver, dependable and efficient. Use the remainder of the insurance cash to buy the M3. You can find a very nice M3 in the 12K to 15K range. Be prepared to replace things like belts and hoses on an M3 shortly after purchasing. You will save yourself much heartache if you address these little issues before you have a true problem. Using an M3 as a daily driver can get somewhat expensive, that's why I suggest getting the 'e'. I've had 3 E30's and 1 E36.... I tell ya, the E30's are the way to go. E36's are just to "soft" for me. Hope you find wahat you want
