I baught an '88 M3 a few months ago. I heard that in Europe the timing chains were needing to be replaced every 100k miles. then I heard that in the US that was not a problem. what is going on? My car has almost 180k miles and the chain has never been replaced. should it be? the chain rattles for about 45 sec. to a min. on cold starts, although thats about how long it takes before I'm out the driveway, so I think it would rattle longer than that.
ANYWAY, should I replace it or not? should I not worry about it and just replace the tensioner spring I keep hearing about recently?
