Is the e30 M3 oil filter specific to the car? Or does it share the 318i filter?

For street use an aftermarket filter may be fine, but, do be sure that it is for an M3, bypass spring is definitely different.

For track days or anything more serious I wouldn't consider anything but a genuine BMW part. Way too much at risk.
