On the first lap, Ron Checca with a new suspension not set up yet, goes flat out after Mike De Cunzo and Dyke Morissey in their respective highly modified M3s (Yes, Morissey runs a highly modified J-Stock (!?!?) that out-accelerates a LTW e36 M3...).

Just before corner 10, Ron slides sideways, then backward behind the concrete wall. No harm but the 23 other cars are coming on furiously, and they do not see Ron's car hidden behind the wall. Just a few flaggers trying to help. Imagine Ron staring at the cars just hoping he will not be hit. He must have been pretty scared.

Ron, you are my driving hero.
