I have an 88 with +150,000 which I got with 67,000. I put over 20,000 on it a year, it is my daily driver. I have never (knock on wood) had a failior that caused me to be without my car. I have had to scheduel things like valve adj. (15,000 miles) periodically, just like any car. Most of the service I have been able to either do or have done on Sat. Some parts cost more then they would for a VW, (ie: ~$100 cap and rotor) but most parts (bushings, control arms, balljoints, etc.) last a long time. In "normal maintance" I spend $1400 to $1600 per year.
