I'm using a "RamAir" brand foam filter that goes in the stock airbox. It has three different layers of density foam.

It works okay, did notice a little better initial throttle response, but I couldn't say it made a big difference.

I figured if dirt bikes have used foam filters for dusty desert conditions, it should be fine for the M3 on the road.
