The reason for any flooding of this nature is the failure of the windshield gasket. Most people don't put their windshield gaskets back in correctly after it is removed because they are too cheap to buy the damn tool. So after you put in the black trim or new chrome trim, make sure you put it in right. My opinion on the fault: Operator Error. Don't go bitching at BMW, see if the windsheild has been replaced and go bitch at them. We had done this on our old 325iC and fried the DME; who did we blame: ourselves!

Please let me know if you have experienced this problem with your car stalling when water has flooded the DME. See date 5/22/01 on the 3 Series (36) collum for info on what people are saying. I am currently working to put a list of names together and their problem pertaining to this issues. I am currenly in the works on talks with BMW and the National Highway Transportation agency that deals with these kinds of problems and recalls. Your help is needed. Thanks.
