Mine does the same. It has nothing to do with airflow over the radiator which is definitely enough. I believe the thermostat does not open fully. I don't think slightly above middle is a problem if it does not overheat when driven hard.

I have noticed that If I drive hard (say above 200 Km/h for a few minutes) and lift off the throttle but do not stop (going a little downhill maybe?) the coolant temp gets low (little above 1/4 on the gauge). I thing this is due to the thermostat remaining fully open while there is airflow over the radiator and the engine does not produce much heat, resulting in overcooling. Has anyone else noticed the same or it is only my thermostat that is 'slow'??
