I have noticed that If I drive hard (say above 200 Km/h for a few minutes) and lift off the throttle but do not stop (going a little downhill maybe?) the coolant temp gets low (little above 1/4 on the gauge). I thing this is due to the thermostat remaining fully open while there is airflow over the radiator and the engine does not produce much heat, resulting in overcooling. Has anyone else noticed the same or it is only my thermostat that is 'slow'??
I live in a very hot and traffic laden country. What I did was remove my thermostat completely. During normal driving my car temp stays at 1/4 mark and rises to 1/2 to 3/4 if bumper to bumper. My only problem is that it takes a while before engine reaches operating temp. Has anyone done this and if so does your car behave the same way?
