A quick rundown on Euro M3 motors. If you are in the States, then you will be limited. I don't think the EvoII/III was imported. There was an EvoI released in europe but these are vary rare as are the Europa Meister.

If I were you I would try ro get an EVOII engine. The big throttle bodies and higher compression provide the best tuning potential for a 2.3. All the ones that my local friendly workshop have done, fly.

Std M3 - 195bhp (cat) 200bhp (no cat)

Late M3 (post 89) 215bhp (cat)

Europa Meister 195bhp (cat)

Cecotto & Ravaglia 215bhp (cat)

Evo II 220bhp (big throttle bodies, exhaust, higher compression, cams, no cat)

Evo III 238bhp (2.5l, big throttle bodies, exhaust, higher compression, cams, injectors)

what is the best year 4 cyl m3 engine? i have heard of evo I, II, and evo sport.
not sure what are the differences, but want one to put in 2002 project, and figure should get best year.
