As I suspected bad bearing. I have the Oil Pan baffle mod. I check the oil level and it was in the middle of the dipstick. Now I know to overfill by 1/16 of an inch. I guess the oil wasn't being picked up due to the cornering g's and the uphill turns doesn't allow the oil from the top end drain to the pan. It stays near the firewall of the passenger side.
I track my car at Willow Springs and have seen the oil pressure light flicker through turn 2 big uphill right hand sweeper. Timing chain rattle started to happen when I parked uphill on my driveway a few months before I lost the bearing.
Now with the e36 hydraulic timing chain tensioner it doesn't rattle anymore on startup.
I haven't added up all my reciepts yet but from the top of my head it's about 6k-7k. I had a lot of while were in there let's change out this and that. So I ended up with new oil pump, water pump seals, UUC shortshifter, rubber hoses. I didn't touch the top end except for the new cams and a valve job. I'd have to say my mechanic Frank did an awesome job, everything went together right the first time! no comebacks or fine tuning.
The cost included my mechanic welding in swaybar reinforcements and front subframe reinforcements, tapping the airpleum elbow, reinforcing the airpleum support, detailing the engine compartment. Lots of little stuff.
Hope this helps
