Every Generation that BMW makes they aim it towards Mercedes. What they do not realize it that BMWs sell well the way they are they donít have to keep making them more luxurious.
BMWs might have sold "pure" sports sedan in the past. But now?? Why do you think Lexus is very famous? Why do you think GM is axing the F-bodies? Why do you think Porsche is coming up with SUVs with monstrous HP ratings??
People want cool, yet comfortable ride. It's a good thing BMW adapted to the consumer's wishes otherwise there'll be no BMW 20-30 years from now.
Now lets look at the E46 M3. Great car...excellent car but it weighs over 3400 and the convertible weights 3700....
I think of the new M3 as a GT car without a V12. Still a great car to drive. Just not a sport sedan anymore.
what is BMW doing?
Giving customers what they want.
You do not put a navigation system in a sports car...The definition of a sports car is a driving machine you do not need all these silly sport buttons because it should always be in sport mode, its a sports car.
Can't agree with you more there. That's why I got my E30 M3.
The real problem I have is that not so much with the E30 M's but mostly with the E36 and hopefully this was just a fad from 95-99 but I fear that it will continue on with the E46's. People just Rice up their cars to the max. In a sports car who needs Big subs? Who needs 20-inch wheels when the car rides Better on the 17's?
It IS disgusting. A guy I know told me of a kid who installed aftermarket stereo (yes! sub, box, amp) in an M3 LTW.
Who needs superchargers or anything else?
Again. It's only excessive horsepower. 99% of the time forced induction on an ///M car will only degrades it from its class.
because they are turning from the ultimate driving machine into the trendy car that everyone has to have so they can impress the girl that lives down the street.
Some people lack something within them they need a BMW to compensate for it. Hell it's always been like that. Take a look at porsches and ferraris. 50% of the owners prolly buy them to get laid off.
I have no respect for chrome wheels that just ad unladen weight and donít do anything but slow the handling and the speed of the car. It kills me when I see a totally nice M'3 but then the first this the person shows me about the car is his Dual subs that put out 200 watts or some trash like that.
The world is not a perfect place. Someone should buy all the E30 M3s left on the world and store it somewhere, and only let the pure enthusiast drive them.
I have a suggestion...turn the radio off and listen to the sweet sounds of the tires struggling for Grip and the engine revving for you.
Keep in mind that most people doesn't have the skill to drive these cars at the fullest. You're more fortunate than they are.
Not the guys who ask how do I manage to fix 20's on my car? How do you disguise the Subs? Or how do I tweak the motor just right so I can drag race with this Honda? I have a suggestion for you take off from the stoplight and you lose from 60 but you make sure its a windy road and while he is spinning out you burn him and teach him who the king of the corners is...not the king of the stoplight. Iím mostly writing this to express my frustration
Again, the world is not perfect.
I am also posting this as a help message to BMW to change the way they are doing things before all their customers are not purists but people who have no respect for the BMW heritage. BMW..
BMW's heritage is only good for marketing these days. The word "fan" doesn't mean shit to the management. Hell the E46 M3s are doing so poorly in sports car racing I'm not sure if BMW is going to have any heritage left in the near future.
Please bring the simplicity back to your cars.
Not going to happen for a while. So, take good care of your current bimmers.
