HA! The same thing happened to me a couple of weeks ago. When I ran the A/C I heard this horrible grinding noise. Turns out the bracket was broken and the compressor vibration was causing that racket. It was welded back together and no more problem.

At the last BMWCCA get together in San Jose, I was told by an M3 guru (Bill) that this is a chronic problem and that the simplest fix is just to sandwitch two brackets on together and it will never break again. Badda Bing ;^)

I know this doesn't answer your question about removing the compressor, but I thought this might help anyone with the same problem.

Hey guys While I was doing my tensioner, I noticed that my AC compressor was hanging down. Turned out that the bracket was severed. I don't use the AC, so should I just disconnect it all together, if so do I plug the lines and what do I plug them with.

THANKS
