For normal detailing plastic trim parts, I use Meguiar's Gold Class Vinyl & Rubber Protectant (if you want the wet look use Natural Shine Vinyl & Rubber Protectant). You can also buy refinishing products for badly damaged or weathered black trim from usual places like BavAuto, Pep Boys, Kragen, etc. These usually involve prep and stain chemicals and can be messy. For painted surfaces, like the trim around your side windows I have found that waxing brings the color right out and keeps it looking great. Another thing about waxing, if you wax your wheels brake dust doesn't cling as well and it is easier to get off when you your regluar car wash. Waxing seems to work really well on windows too (better than RainX) :^)You can get a personalized car care "Prescription" at the Meguiar's website that will give you product advise based on where you live, climate, if you park your car outside or inside, etc, etc. It can be very confusing trying to figure out what products to use and when, so I thought this was a very helpful tool.
See link below.
Anyway, good luck.

What do most of you use to make the black trim look good?
Do you use the same product on black plastic as on black painted metal surfaces? Thanks dh
