I bought a facom (expensive, but the only one available locally!!) 1/2" sparc-plug socket and used my local friendly machining shop to lathe it (no charge!!!) so it fits the hole!

Do not worry about thinning the walls too much as the torque requires is too small anyway.

much better than the crappy BMW tool at the toolbox! And yes, you can use your favorite torque wrench when tighting your plugs for that 'professional touch'.
