1. A friend with a good working M3.
2. Some time (lots of it really !!!)
3. A logical approach.
4. Beer to celebrate a sucessful fix.
Start by swapping components that are known to be good from the "good" M3 to yours. Start with the real stupid "It can't be that...." things.
Drive your car with the new parts and asses the changes.
1. Plug leads
2. Dizzy cap and rotor
3. Throttle position switch
4. Coolant temp sensor.
7. Check your earths.
If you try all these and have no luck the next step is a little more complex.
1. Check for intake gasket leaks.
2. In car fuel pump.
After this it is time for an expert. Document what you do and the results.
possibly the ECU. Unfortunately these problems are a pain in the ass to solve and the best way to solve it is to hand the car over to a specialst so they can try swapping parts around with one of their cars until they locate the problem.
About this time last year my car was stalling at speed and while stationary. Took it to the dealers and they diagnosed a faulty DME relay too - which DIDNT fix the problem. Took it to a specialist twice. First time they thought they fixed it then 2 days later it started doing it again. It turned out to be a faulty ECU.........
i have a 88 M3 which has st6alling and non starting problems.
hastried to get it fixed and the BMW dealer said it was relays but the stalling came back.
I am thinking any one done a engine swap using E36 328 engine and what the cost is total or should i just sell the car for parts?
getting tired of maintaining this fun but expensive car.
Please help, i am in San Jose CA.
