OK...So I won't worry about the ATF being in there, at least for the short run. The thing seems to shift fine, just that I was concerned about the ATF! Will definitely switch to the Redline MTL and Diff oils with next Inspection I service....

Thanks, gents!

Well, I finally did it -- made the deal for *my* e30 m3! Alpine white over black, 1990 model, with 74k miles and a good history. Ran very well in the 200+ mile drive home yesterday in high ambient temps, and the AC blew cold all the way! (Ask me about the AC in my 87 911t!!!)Oil/water temps consistent and low... :-)

Anyway, another general question for all of you helpful folks -- the PO had the gearbox lube switched to ATF becuase he felt the shifting was notchy while cold. Is this OK? I spoke with Phaedrus (SF) this morning (to schedule that first oil change and also to get the gear lube switched to Redline MTL), and they said not to worry about the gear lube in the short term -- that it was not critical and that for some of the manual gearboxes that ATF is the proper choice. It just seems to me that ATF is awfully thin for a highly stressed 5 speed gearbox. Comments?

TIA,

Bill
