BMW manual trannys specify a GL-4 spec gear oil. Redline D4 ATF, MTL (70w-80) and MT90 (75w-90) all meet the GL-4 spec and can therefore be used in all BMW trannys. The only difference is viscosity, with the D4 ATF being the thinnest and most suitable for cold weather shiftability, MTL being the middle grade is probably suitable for most cars and MT-90 is the thickest (equivalent to 10w-40 motor oil) and designed for high temp applications.
