Yikes. I have the plain ///M badge on my car now (no "3") but I did recently buy the proper ///M3 badge. I have decided to wait for the current one to become worn or damaged before replacing it.
I suppose one preventative measure you could take would be to put some heavy duty clear tape over the painted surface. I think Gustave recomended that some time ago. Maximillian's sells the ///M3 grille badges for about $30 as I recall. My local BMW dealer wants $59!!!

and then pray it doesnt get chipped! I bought a new one which wasnt cheap. I think it would of been cheaper through BMW but for some reason called another retailer. Anyway, the damn thing now has a nice stone chip on the red stripe - BOLLLOXXXXXXXXX.
