Unfortunately, Redline and Amsoil both only compare themselves to "leading brands." It would be cool to see an Amsoil/Redline shootout where they are subjected to the same tests.
Its pricey, about $8 a quart, but well worth it. This oil makes a difference you can actually FEEL. Its very thin oil, so the engine spins up a bit quicker than it does with the thicker oils. Also, the oil warms up quicker and cools better than others. Your gas mileage will improve a bit also, due to less friction from the thinner oil. A guy by the name of Bob///M3 from the E36 M3 board did a TON of research on the subject of oil, talked with oil chemists and everything, and came to a definite decision that Amsoil Series2000 0W-30 is the best oil for higher performance motors (such as the S14) with tighter bearing tolerances. On top of all this, the Amsoil offers better protection LONGER, meaning that you wont need to change your motor oil as frequently. Amsoil even says that 35k miles or one year is the limit! I’d recommend changing it a bit more often than that though!
Previous owner was using 5-50 Castrol Synthetic. Should I stay with this? Any opinions?
