Brandon:

Gotta agree with you on that assessment! I think that may be largely due to the fact (I am nearly certain of this) that AMSOIL is a pyramid scheme like Amway -- and that such schemes engender a *bit* of fanaticism. I recall that a neighbor of ours (back in the mid 70's) was pushing AMSOIL that way, and I seem to recall something wacky like using a roll of toilet paper as the oil filter. Whatever.

In any case, the stuff is probably just fine to use in our M3's, as are Mobil 1 and Syntec and the others. For my money, Mobil 1 is probably best price/performance tradeoff. I'm getting my oil changed at a shop tomorrow morning (don't ask) and I'm going with plain old mineral oil....

All of the AMSOIL people I have encountered are fanatics. Are you guys going to form an alliance with the Jehova's Witnesses and start knocking on doors?!

I'm a Mobil 1 15w-50 man myself. The fact that Mercedes, Porsche, etc use Mobil 1 at the factory is good enough for me. Incidentally, a friend of mine with a Boxter says that his recommended oil change interval is 30K miles. Is this complete crap or complete truth?
