Seems that when you get a new (used) car, you spend the first few days/weeks discovering the bugs -- so here's one I just found on my '90.

Driver's side door lock: when key is rotated towards the back of the car to lock, it is possible (in fact easy) to over rotate and the key goes towards the back of the car, and the key slot is pointing about 45 degrees past vertical.

The car locks/unlocks, and I can get the key out, but obvioulsy this is something that should be fixed. I have heard of an issue with M3 "door lock cams" that need to be replaced. Is this my problem? Easy DIY fix? Any idea of shop time (parts & labor) to fix?

TIA for the help!

Bill

I have the same problem, my solution was to buy a keyless entry kit from BMP for US$80 because its connected to the trunk actuator therefore no problem. I just left my door lock alone. Hope this helps. BTW you can use the trunk key hole to lock and unlock the car in the mean time.
