Took my car in for a one day service. Took them four days..go in after being told the car is ready. When I get there, the car is parked off to the side and am told that it has been scratched! (2001 E46 M3 ..3 weeks old..770 miles on it)
Takes another week for them to repair the damage (which is still visible). Get the car back and 1) they have put on 90 MILES! 2) discover a Doctor's Prescription and a Blockbusters Receipt on the passenger seat! Takes me another week to find out that yes my car was taken home by a service dept employee for the night! All without my knowledge or consent! (specifically told them I did not want anyone to take my car home as this has happened to my brother's Boxster; also asked them whether my car was staying on the lot during the service visit and was told yes most definitely)
The car has now developed a clunking in the front and rear..and the steering vibrates badly at speed and over any bumps (one of the original reason for the service visit!). Call the service department to schedule an appt for the warranty work...can't get them to call me back!
Talk to BMW and am told they can't help me because it is a dealership issue!
Note that this is my second E46 M3 to be damaged by the same dealership! The first car had the front wheel chipped and a cut in the rear tire. Had to discover the damage myself on the walk around before signing work order on pickup. Plus this same dealership tried to blame me for the infamous rough idle by saying it was bad gas! Then tried to charge me $800 for repairing the supposed effects of the bad gas...even charging me for quarter tank of gas since they had to refill the tank after it was supposedly drained (even though the rough idle was still there when I picked the car up); when I refused to pay made me sign a "refusal to pay" but were good enough not to "keep my car hostage". They said they knew it was bad gas because they and BMW had done an analysis on the gas from the tank. When I kept pushing for this report for two weeks, they finally admitted they nor BMW ever did any analysis!
BEWARE PEOPLE! Service department employees taking customers cars home for the night and on personal business seems to be a reality. Now I will never let them test drive my cars without me. Plus no washing. I think high performance high demand cars like the M3 are obviously particularly subceptible to this unscrupulous dealer practice.
