When I did mine, there was one hose by the driver's side of the firewall that did not match my new one. I called the people I ordered the hose kit from and they swore that was the right part number. I went to my mechanic and he looked it up on micro-fische and it was the correct part number, but it looked totally wrong. Surprisingly he had another '88 in the shop. On this car the hose in question was exactly like mine. As it turned out this hose was redesigned in the whole coolant recall thing. The next day I drove to the dealer to have my recall work done. As soon as I pulled in the driveway, my waterpump gave up the ghost, there was coolant everywhere. I decided to have them replace it, this was good because there is one hose under the alternator that is just about impossible to get to without removing things. When some people put hoses on cars they put a little lube of some sort on the inside of the hose where they connect to the radiator. This will save you some head aches if you ever have to take this hose off. I have heard more than once about people breaking the plastic piece off of their e30 M3 radiator when removing the hoses.

So I am going to replace belts and hoses on Monday evening. Since this is my first time at this particular job, I have here a parts inventory and wanted to run it by you folks to make sure I have everything. Every time I undertake a project that renders my car temporarily inoperable, one silly little thing always pops up that I overlooked or forgot. Something that a simple trip to Pep Boys would solve, but I can't DRIVE there.
