K&Ns work v. well. You could use a larger one if you use "pod" or "cone" versions - this would increase the dust capacity. ITG foam filters em to work well in their latest incarnations. Also, there is a French K&N cone filter clone that looks superior to K&N in some cases. I have seen versions with HUGE flared velocity stack ends...K&N is a bit abrupt at the air exit. A K&N pod on an S14 can gain power but you need to buy/make proper heat shielding to lower temps and prevent the ingestion of hot air from the radiator.

In light of this, does anyone make a heat shield for the e30 for use with a cone filter? This is the original reason I steered away from buying one. There seem to be plenty out there (Turner, Dinan, etc.) for the e36 and e46, but none for our cars.

a guy in my BMW CCA club has made one for his M3 that also made one for the club presidents M3 as well. he advertised it here last year about, but nobody liked it because it looked cheap in the pictures, well I've seen it in person, and the quality is top notch, very nice.

if you just want a heat sheald you can either make on out of alumanum, or get this one from MK autosprot, it's made of carbon Fiber

comes without these gay stripes

hope this helps
