It's all about "boy-racers". Like anything, if it's maintained properly, it'll run forever. The driveline is very strong, particularly the S14 motor. Often described as bulletproof, 150,000 miles isn't uncommon before the big rebuild, sometimes closer to 200,000 miles. Rebuilding can be expensive, but it costs a lot to re-do a 2002 (which, by the way, was the best BMW ever built!)

It's the buzzers and whistles that are more likely to give you a challenge, along with the usual wearout items (these cars are a minimum of 12 years old, most are 14), and of course, bodywork. They're great cars and will give many more years of competitive service. 15 or 20 years from now we'll see if they can match the 2002s record for longevity!

Happy motoring!
