generally they never fail! If your's is bad, pull the housing (undo the hoses and senders, tape the hose end to seal out the dirt, remove the 3 nuts or bolts) and have a machine shop check the base to make sure it is flat. A friend of mine hade one that was NOT real flat and the gasket failed during a race.
