Try using the black foam pads that are used for the base of lamps, vases, knick knacks etc. that keeps them from marring the table top. These can be cut to shape and are self adhesive. Just cut a small strip and insert into the side of the swivel vent, the foam/felt should give enough friction to keep the vent stable. Hope this helps.
