at full lock to the right, it screeeeeeetches, and under slow rolling turns it groans badly. I just replaced the tie-rods less than a week ago, unfortunetly becuase of school, I have not had it properly aligned. could i have messed up my steering rack when putting the tie rods in?

also, I've heard that a e36 M3 steering rack will fit, is this better? cheaper?

I have seen a lot of discussion about this subject in the past via the archives, but, unfortunately, no one ever discussed how it turned out. I have seen the write-up at Zionsville Motorsports and have even spoken with them. Currently, they only have the rack conversion from an e36 325i available, not an e36 M3. They say that the difference would be imperceptible, which may be true. Basically, my questions are: Has anyone actually done the conversion? Was it worth it? Any suggestions? Is the rack from an e36 Z3 the same? Are all e36 racks created equal? What is the meaning of life???? My rack is starting to leak and I need to do something. This sounds like a great idea, but I would like to hear from someone who has actually done it. Thanks in advance. JOE

is replacing a steering rack a do-it-yourself, or leave it to the pro's job?
