The lack of return sound like a geomertry problem. The caster angle is suposed to make the wheels want to return to straight ahead. Have you had the alignment checked since you put the mods on the front end? If you lowered the car, the toe-out and caber are going to be off, way off perhaps. Now, as an aside, if the car pushes badly going in to a turn, you will have way too much steering angle, this could make you have to start to straighten out the wheel to regain traction (getting the wheel to rotate at ground speed). But once you get the beast gripping again, letting go of the steering wheel should result in the wheels snapping twards straight again.
