Yep, and this should be done part of an Inspection 2 service. If it costs 4-500 bucks for valve adjustments an Inspection 2 service must cost 2 grand + ha ha
Wow, if you are paying $400-$500 to get your valves adjusted you are getting shafted. At my local, friendly garage I pay an hours labour max. to get them checked. If they are doing other work they will normally check them free of charge.
I feel you. No offense...just that I think discretion is the better part of valor here. Aren't you an aircraft mechanic by training? It *might* be easier for you to do valve adjustments than for the rest of us!
PS -- you need 20-inch Daytons if you are really gonna roll hard.
Of course, I meant that you should enlist the assistance of an experienced individual for this procedure. As far as mechanical ability goes, if you can use a feeler gauge, a rachet and a torque wrench, you can do the job just fine.

Take Brandon's advice or get a reputable shop to do it. Just be careful - the M3 is not a good car for amateur mechanics....and you can do more damage than good by mis-adjusting the valves.
By the way, have you found a local shop yet?
Get a buddy who knows what he/she is doing and have them teach you how to do the adjustment. It is educational and you will get to keep $400-$500 in your pocket. It really is very easy, provided you have the correct tools and the shims of course. There are usually kits with shims and the compression tool available for "rent" from your local BMWCCA chapter of from a fellow club member at nominal cost. Once you see how easy the procedure is, you will be amazed that garages have the gall to charge so much for it :^)
Gustave's site has a very informative write-up. I suggest you check it out. See the link below.

I was talking to a buddy of mine about my car and he was telling me that i should have the valves(cylinder head) ajusted or possibly replaced when i take my car in next month. I also was looking at turner motorsports.com and they also said that it is a week point in our cars. Has anyone had a problem with this before, how much am i looking at for this?
