How do you tell if your differential is any good? (archive)

Are there any simple tests that you can do to see if your diff is any good?

The reason I ask is that I find that with one rear wheel off the ground (and the other firmly on the ground), I can turn the elevated wheel by hand with only a little resistance. I was thinking it shouldn't be so easy to turn.

Time for a rebuild?
