It depends what you are looking for. There are some minor differences, but it isn't that big of a deal. The post 88 cars had sealed beams. The 90-91 cars have aluminum control arms which are lighter. The 90-91 cars also had an airbag. The wheel is a little smaller, but it has an airbag which is illegal if you take it out.

I wouldn't worry about what year to buy, I would look for a car that has been taken care of well.
