Agreed on all points with Derin. I have an S14 in my '02 and it's a helluva party. But... As Derin says, low end torque isn't the S14's strong suit (the fun really starts around 3500), so you'll find it almost neccessary to swap the M3 4.10 final drive as well to keep the low-end party going, which involves half-shaft and drive shaft hassles, or addition of the M3 Getrag 265 box, etc... There are 4.11 '02 final drives out there, though rare. Call Ireland Engineering on that one.

The S14 swap (by itself) is easier, but if I were to do it again, I'd go with the six - the smooth, wide-banded motor BMW is famous for. That way, you can avoid swapping the diff housing, and spend your time and money on a more civilized motor that demands fewer virgin cash sacrifices to the parts gods.
