are two of the major factors. The higher the ratio of the mass in motion to the friction, the longer it will spin (think of a gyroscope, lots of mass+little friction=long spin down time). If you either have lowered mass (lightened fly wheel, light weight clutch, lightened rods, etc.) or low friction (race built motor with large tolerances in the bearings, piston to cylinder wall, etc.) you would see the difference.
OR
If your other M3 squirted more gas on the spin down, it would "power" the engine into a longer spin down.
