For street, the top fill mark is more than adequate. For track, 1/2 pint (not quart) above the fill line. This is according to a BMW Motorsports bulletin (I don't have the number of the bulletin, but Ray Korman showed it to me).

Turner Motorsports say 1/2 quart (1 pint) above the fill line, but I don't know the source of their information, maybe its just something they recommend from their own experience.

Also, absolutely do NOT go on track without an upgraded oil pan baffle, or you risk oil starvation due to hard cornering. It only takes an instant, literally, to ruin the motor. Places like Korman Autoworks and Turner Motorsports sell them. It's not hard for a Do it Yourselfer, if you are careful, and take your time.
