The rear view mirrors are part of the safety system in the car, meaning that it is meant to snap away when a small amount of force is applied. I guess this would save your head if it hit the mirror in an accident. Anyway, remove th panel above the mirror and you will notice the mirror end is fitted into a bracket. To remove the mirror first unscrew the black dowel like screw which secures the back of the mirror stem to the windshield. Then apply gentle progressive force to the mirror (pushing towards the windshield). After enough force is applied the bottom "T" joint will snap away from the bracke. Now all you have to do is disconnect the wires and you are done. Note that after I did this to my rear view mirror I now experience the dreaded vibrating mirror problem. I hope this helps.
