timing chain renewel: not a big deal, big price??? (archive)

I want to renew the timing chain om my 190.000km 1986 M3. Are there pitfalls?
In Holland at a BMW-dealer I'll have to pay appr. 1100 dollar for the timing chain set. Perhaps import via US-bases dealers/shops is cheeper?
